General Notes

Note:  Christina's birth year is problematic.  In all the census enumerations, and on her death certificate, Christina Harrower is consistently listed as much younger than someone born in 1797.  She could have lied about her age all her life; however, it is also very common in Scotland to have a Christian name repeated in a family after the death of an infant child of the same name.  The fact that I have not found a birth record for a second Christian/Christina Harrower is troublesome, but, again, it is a fairly common occurrence in this time period to have some children's births and not others.  Usually this is related to how wealthy the family was, since Church of Scotland parish registration could be costly.  However, since this seemed to be a wealthier family, the cost of registering the birth does not seem like it would have been an issue.  Sometimes there were gaps in the church records, but, again, that was not the case with this particular parish (in this time period). I am assuming then that 1797 is the correct birth year for Christina Harrower (until proven otherwise).  Oct 2010, kmh.
