IRA WILLIS WHITE was born 23 November 1885 in Grant County, Oregon, the son of Homer White and Nancy Ann Powell. He grew up as a farm laborer in Oregon. In May 1904 he married his wife, Vesta Alma Parker, the daughter of Daniel Woodson Parker and Celia Caroline Wright. Vesta was the younger sister of Ira's brother-in-law, Shirley Everett Parker, who had married Ira's older sister Laura in 1900.
In 1909 their son Carol Homer White was born in Oregon. In the 1910 census, the family lived in the Grass Valley Precinct in Sherman County, Oregon. Ira was a farm laborer. Their second son, Leo Ira White, was born in 1912 in Oregon. In the WWI draft registration card that Ira filled out on 12 Sep 1918, he worked as a band sawyer for wooden ship yards in Vancouver, Washington. He was described as tall with a medium build, with blue eyes and brown hair. He had a total loss of vision in his right eye. Only a few months later, on 07 Dec 1918, Ira died of influenza in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, USA. He was only 33 years old, a victim of The Great Flu of 1918. He left behind two young sons. His widow, Vesta, married again several years later to William John Kennedy from Scotland.
His tombstone was carved by his great-nephew, Elden Richmond.
