bullet  General Notes

DALLAS MACK NELSON was born 23 December 1873 in Petersburg, Pike County, Indiana, USA, the son of William W. Nelson and Amanda Richardson. Since his father died when he was a child, Mack appeared in his grandfather's household in the 1880 census in Marion Township, Pike County, Indiana, USA.  He was then 6 years old.  Although Mack's mother was a widow in 1880, she remarried in 1888 to Enoch Wood. However, by the 1900 census in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, Amanda was widowed yet again. Mack was then working as a fireman for the air-line railroad. He continued to work for the railroad for the rest of his life, mostly as a locomotive engineer.

On 20 January 1906 at the circuit court in Jasper, Dubois County, Indiana, Mack married Mary Ann Wilkey, daughter of William Wilkey and Jeannette Cliff.  It was his second marriage, and her first.  Together, they had three children — Thelma (b. 1907), Evadean Earl (b. 1912), and Dallas William (b. 1915).  The marriage ended in divorce, however, sometime before the 1930 census.

Later Mack married Cora Isabell (Wilson) Townsend. She was a widow with two daughters. Mack and Cora lived in Princeton, Gibson County, Indiana. On 4 May 1949, at the age of 75 years, Mack died of a stroke. He was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Patoka on the 6th of May. Twenty-five years later, Cora died on 29 May 1974 at the age of 91 years. She was buried next to him; Mack and Cora share a gravestone in Oak Hill Cemetery.
