Glenda was a ward of the State of Texas during the Great Depression and resided at the orphanage in Corsicana, Texas, where she also attended school. There she met her lifelong friend and husband, William "Billy" O. Smith, whom she married on January 19, 1954 in Dallas.

Once her children were grown, she returned to the workforce as a sales clerk at J. C. Penneys where she remained until her retirement in 1989.
Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and her beloved 'Horns.
Glenda was a member of Elmcreek Baptist Church in Buffalo Gap.
