Henry Varney Vanderpool, former Shelbyville resident, died at his home in Pana at 6:30 Tuesday morning, January 13. Mr. Vanderpool was a retired coal miner. Mr. Vanderpool was born in Shelby County of March 5, 1872, the son of William Nelson and Mary Watkins Vanderpool. He leaves his wife, Martha, and five children - Clark of Mode, Mrs. Garnett DeWitt of Van Dyke, Mich., Cameron of Detroit, Mrs. William Grabner of Mitchell, Ill., and Mrs. John Hively of Portland Oregon. He also leaves one sister, Miss Stella Vanderpool of Latonic Beach, Fla., and three brothers, Cecil of Fairbault, Minn., and Carl and Cleo of Whitehall, Ill. One son, Roy Vanderpool, was killed in the first World War. The Shelbyville American Legion post was named in his honor. Shelbyville Democrat - 16 Jan 1942
